My name is Joseph Konal, and I excited to serve as the Principal of Grissom Middle School. This year marks my twenty-sixth year as a school administrator. Before coming to serve the Grissom community, I was the principal at Hatherly Elementary School and Cromie Elementary School. I also worked for two years as the Chief Academic Officer in Warren Consolidated Schools. Prior to coming to WCS, I served as the assistant principal at Anderson Middle School in the Berkley School District and was a teacher in that district as well. My first position as an educator was as a 5th grade teacher at St. Anne's School in Warren. Having served as a teacher, a school building administrator and a central office administrator, I have had the opportunity to view all aspects of the learning process and am encouraged by the dedication and commitment of the Grissom staff to ensure the finest education for our students.
My formal training to become and educator began at Central Michigan University, where I earned by bachelor’s degree in education. I then attending Wayne State University to earn a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and then attended Oakland University to earn an Education Specialist degree in School Administration. I continue to actively participate in professional development courses, as I believe that learning is a lifelong process.
Being a part of the outstanding Grissom staff is an exciting experience, and I am inspired by the dynamic energy of the students, staff and parents. The dedicated staff and I are committed to guiding our students toward continuous improvement as we work each day to demonstrate our Grizzly PRIDE and to Be the Best We Can Be!
