Counseling Referral
My name is Lauren Perkins and I am the school counselor here at Harwood. This is my first year as a school counselor and I am so excited to be working with you and your students. As the school counselor, I support social-emotional learning throughout the building, provide classroom guidance lessons, small group counseling, and individual counseling. I also collaborate with school staff and parents in order to best meet the needs of the students.

Classroom Guidance Lessons
Throughout the school year, I visit each classroom about once a month to teach guidance lessons. These lessons usually last about 30 minutes and cover topics such as safety, listening and respect, friendship and social skills, self-esteem, mental health, careers, and diversity.
Small Group Counseling
I also provide small group counseling for students who may benefit from spending some extra time developing academic, social, or emotional skills. There will be 5 students per group and we usually meet once a week for several weeks for 15-30 minutes.
Individual Counseling
Some students can benefit from one-on-one counseling regarding academic, social, or emotional challenges.

CARE Referrals
If I determine that your student could benefit from outside counseling, I offer resources to parents and sometimes refer students to CARE of Southeastern Michigan.
