WELCOME BACK

August 22, 2016

Dear Willow Woods Parents and Students,

I would like to warmly welcome you back to school for the 2016-2017 school year. I hope everyone has had a safe and enjoyable summer vacation.

Over the past few weeks we have been busy preparing and planning for the upcoming school year. The custodial staff, Jim Ranella, Nancy Devuono and Beth Petroski have been very busy preparing the school and getting the classrooms ready for another amazing year that will be filled with a lot of learning and growth.   We also have a fantastic team in the main office, Joyce Limburg, Secretary and Linda VanHaaren, Student Accounting Clerk. They both have been working very hard to prepare for the start of the school year.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to the office staff with questions or concerns as your child begins a new school year.

The teaching and support staff at Willow Woods is an incredible group of highly qualified educators who are dedicated to providing the students with the highest quality of education, one which focuses on student achievement and academic success.  You will have an opportunity to meet them on Tuesday, September 6th at 6:30pm.  This is a very important night and it sets the foundation for the school year.  Being a parent of four children myself, as well as an educator, I cannot stress enough the importance of meeting your child’s teacher and becoming familiar with all of the things your child will be learning throughout the school year.  So, please do your very best to attend on September 6th.

Student success and achievement is one of the many goals we all share here at Willow Woods Elementary.  I truly believe that success begins with communication and commitment. In order for every student to achieve their full potential, staff, students, parents and the surrounding community all need to work together to create a strong partnership to help each and every student reach all of their educational goals.  I encourage each of you to support your child(ren) by becoming an active member of the Willow Woods community through volunteering, attending school events, or being part of the Willow Woods PTCO.  Below are some important dates that I invite you to attend.

  • Tuesday August 30th 10:00am-12:00pm: Receive Teacher Assignment & Bus Information in Main Office (Teachers will not be available on this day)
  • Tuesday September 6th 8:47am-12:03pm: First Day of School (Half-Day) Grades 1-5 Enter through the Gym (Door #34)
  • Tuesday September 6th 6:30pm-8:00pm: Curriculum Night w/Special Guest Superintendent of Schools Dr. Robert Livernois

I would also like to remind and encourage you to complete a “Background Check” at the beginning of the year if you plan on volunteering in any capacity at school. A new form must be on file every school year.   Forms will go home with your child on the first day of school with the “Welcome Back” packet.

I thank you in advance for supporting Willow Woods Elementary school, and being an active part in your child’s educational experience. It truly is a privilege for me to be working with you and your child and I look forward to creating yet another successful school year together.

Sincerely,
